A branch of the family of Amir, son of Japheth, separated and went to China. The leader of this group built ships based on the model of Noah's ark, his ancestor, where all his people embarked; they crossed the sea, reached China, populated it, built cities, developed sciences and arts there, and exploited gold mines. This leader reigned for three hundred years; after him, his son Sani reigned for two hundred years.
The country of China is vast; it is said to contain three hundred and some flourishing cities, not counting the towns and villages, where numerous marvels are found. To go to this country, one must cross seven seas, each characterized by a wind, a color, and fish of particular species. The first of these seas is that of Fars. The current king of China is called Bagbour; he resides in the capital, whose name is Ansou, distant thirty days from Khanfou where the merchants' vessels dock.
Bagbour is the title given to the emperors of China; it's not the name of one of them.
The city designated here must be Kai-fong fou, in Ho-nan, which was the capital of China from 960 to 1126. This city may well be about thirty days from Hang-tcheou, of which Kan-p'ou (Khanfou) is the port. The name Ansou is undoubtedly, like the Khansâ of Ibn Batoutah and the Quinsay of Marco Polo, only an alteration of King-che "capital".
